Our commitment
SOMATH (legally School of Math) is committed to making schoolofmath.us accessible to all visitors, including people who use assistive technology. We aim to conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA, the standard published by the W3C for web accessibility, and we treat accessibility as ongoing work rather than a checkbox.
What we've done
Concrete steps in the current site:
- Semantic HTML for headings, lists, links, and landmark regions, so screen readers can navigate the page in a logical order
- Keyboard navigation for every interactive element — links, buttons, and forms — without requiring a mouse
- Color combinations chosen to meet AA contrast for body text and primary calls-to-action
- Descriptive alt text on photographs and meaningful images, with decorative images marked as such
- Text that scales smoothly up to 200% without breaking the layout
- A consistent, logical heading hierarchy on every page (one h1, then h2 and h3 in order)
- Visible focus styles on links and buttons, so keyboard users can see where they are
- Form labels associated with their inputs, and clear error messages on the evaluation form
Known issues
We try to be honest about where the site isn't yet where we want it. At the time of this update:
- Our Google Maps embed on the contact page is a third-party iframe. We don't fully control its accessibility behavior, so we provide a text address and a "Get directions" link as alternatives.
- The evaluation form is processed by a third-party service (Web3Forms). It is keyboard-accessible and labeled, but some assistive-tech edge cases may behave inconsistently. If a form blocks you, please email or call us with the same information and we'll handle it directly.
- A small number of decorative motion effects (subtle hovers and transitions) are used. They respect the
prefers-reduced-motionsystem setting where applicable. If you encounter motion that doesn't, let us know. - We don't currently host any video content with captions. If we add video in the future, we'll caption it.
We work through this list as we update the site, and we welcome reports of anything we've missed.
Feedback & help

Physical location
Our classroom is at 226 West 79th Street, between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue, on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
- The entrance is at street level off West 79th Street.
- Public transit is close by: the 1 train at 79th Street is half a block away; the B and C trains at 81st Street are about an eight-minute walk; the M79 and M104 buses stop at the door.
- Some interior areas of the building involve stairs. If you or your child uses a wheelchair, walker, stroller, or other mobility aid, please call us at (646) 668-6151 before your visit and we will arrange an accessible meeting space and walk you through what to expect.
- If a sensory-friendly environment, a quiet room, or any other accommodation would help your family, just ask. We'd rather plan ahead than have you arrive and be uncomfortable.
