How our classes work

10 programs · start any week

SOMATH runs 10 leveled programs. Little Newtons, Kid Einsteins, and Young Fermats (Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, and Geometry & Trigonometry) run 48-class cycles over 12 months; every other program runs a 24-class cycle that restarts every 6 months. Enroll at any point of your child's level — they'll complete all classes of the cycle, carrying any remaining sessions into the next one. You don't wait for a semester to start. Class formats are tuned to age and stamina: Little Newtons (Grades 1–2) runs 60 minutes, Kid Einsteins (Grades 3–4) runs 90 minutes, and every other program runs the full 2 hours. Pen and paper, small cohorts, personal attention, and regular feedback to parents throughout the cycle. This is not drop-in tutoring — it's a real classroom with a structured program behind it.

SHSAT Prep runs on its own deadline

The Specialized High Schools test is in late October, so SHSAT Prep is scheduled around it — not the year-round weekly format. See the full SHSAT calendar, structure, and how membership applies to SHSAT students.

Frequently asked questions

The most common questions parents ask us. Call (646) 668-6151 or book a free evaluation for anything not covered here.

What are SOMATH's hours?

Monday through Friday 3-10pm, Saturday 9am-6pm, and Sunday 10am-5pm. Weekday afternoons are the busiest slots; weekend morning slots (Saturday 9-11am, Sunday 10-12) fill first each semester.

How do I see current class times?

The schedule page lists every currently-running class by track and time. If you don't see a time that works for your family, call (646) 668-6151 — we occasionally open new sections when demand justifies it, and can put you on a waitlist for your preferred slot.

Can we switch class times during the semester?

Yes, if seats are available in another section of the same track. Send us the slot you'd like to move to and we'll confirm availability within one business day.

What about holidays and school breaks?

SOMATH follows the NYC public school calendar for major holidays (Thanksgiving, winter break, spring break). We stay open on most one-day observances. The full closure calendar is emailed to enrolled families at the start of each semester and posted on this page.

What if my child needs to miss a class?

Every SOMATH membership includes one free make-up class per month. Coordinate the make-up with your teacher directly — most sections have another session that week where the child can join.

Are there summer classes?

Yes. Summer runs late June through late August. Programs continue with lighter cadence (usually once per week rather than twice). Summer is a particularly strong time for SHSAT and AP prep — we run intensives that compress a semester of content into 8-10 weeks.
